ENSURING SAFETY AND SECURITY OF PERSONNEL IN CSDP MISSIONS AND OPERATIONS: DIRECTOR OF SANT’ANNA SCHOOL DIRPOLIS INSTITUTE INVITED SPEAKER AT WORLD BANK “Law, Justice and Development Week 2017” IN WASHINGTON
In his talk on “Ensuring Safety and Security of Personnel in CSDP Missions and Operations” Professor Andrea de Guttry, director of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics, Development), will discuss the moral and legal obligations of employers to their employees, contractors, and volunteers in maintaining their security and safety when on CSDP assignments or working in remote areas.
The Law, Justice and Development Week 2017 organized by the World Bank will be held in Washington, from November 6th to 9th. The conference consists of parallel sessions with invited speakers. It will also offer an interactive media hub to provide an international forum to discuss and share good practices in advancing gender equality among international organizations, private sector actors, civil society organizations and others stakeholders. Professor Andrea de Guttry will focus on the Duty of Care legal and regulatory frameworks.
Underlying the conception of a global “Duty of care”, international laws, treaties, and regulations may not fully rise to the same level of enforcement as national laws within a state. Although domestic laws may be limited, Professor Andrea de Guttry will address the changes needed to improve global duty of care as a key objective of legal practitioners who seek collaborative, international efforts to resolve disparities.
Andrea de Guttry developed a regulatory framework at Sant’Anna School which serves as a model used for enforcing relevant national laws and policies on Duty of Care obligations (for the academics, students and administrative staff to avoid the risk of foreseeable injury within specific areas of interest).
